GABBER (GAPPIE) - Jiddish word for friend, mate, fellow

"Hé gappie, alles lekker?"

The term gabbers was also used to describe hard house fans in the 1990s: bold-shaven partygoers wearing Australian and Cavello sport suits, going wild at gabber parties.

During these rave parties like Thunderdome, gabbers started gliding and jumping on the heels of their Nike Air Max, creating their signature dance called 'hakken'.

Sex, drugs and rock and roll was replaced by Nike Air Max, synthetic drugs and hakken. This was the universe of the gabbers which seemed to end around the turn of the century when a DJ-revolution made techno, dance and trance mainstream.
